Geografía de Latinoamérica

If you have ever heard of a country and not known where it is, this post is for you. Personally, I still miss Carmen Sandiego and her travels all over the world running from Chief and the gumshoes! Anyone remember the TV show?

I have found a few games online that focus on finding countries and capitals in Latin America. This first one is good because it gives you a number of levels to choose from. Feeling brave? Try Level 3, where you need to drag the country where it belongs. A good hint is to follow the contour of the shore line. That will really help except for Bolivia and Paraguay; the first is landlocked, and the second has ocean acces via rivers. Of course you can also start at Level 1 and work your way up. There are quizzes on rivers and capitals too.

The following web page gives you the name of the country and you need to click on it. For Central and South America, go to:

South America only is at:

and for the Caribbean:

This last one has games that include capitals of the countries:

  1. i remember watching that show, but only a few episodes. there has been many times when i have heard of a country and not known where it acutally was. Its kind of like when people try and tell you they were some where far away they say they went to guam, but in reality when you ask that person where guam is on a map very little to almost no one really knows where it truely is. I think that if you are going to talk about a country or place at least know a little bit about where the place is located.

  2. I think I remember playing a computer game with Carmen Sandiego. I used to play it all the time.. i think it was a game but also a educational one too? I'm not sure i don't exactly remember. But I agree with the post above. A lot of people always use Guam as a place they were meaning wherever they went was really far away. When i first heard someone say that i wondered if Guam was even a place, which i later found out it was. I think its crazy that theres lots of little places all over the world that we have no idea exist.

  3. Like Taylor I played the computer game Carmen Sandiego. Me and my sister would play for hours it was educational there was a map where we would locate cities and countries. I've actually heard that the term "that's in Guam" is actually an American phrase and its not commonly used in other countries. The term "its a small world after all" it does not really apply, the world is huge and there are so many places to see.

  4. I remember in elementary school on the computers the only games we had and played were carmen sandiego and the oregon trail. I think everyone has played them. There are so many places in the world it is hard to keep track and many times I wonder where it might be if I do not recognize it. Playing those games were actually hard, but I like how it also tells you facts while you play. Even though it was hard I found it a little easier and more helpful to remember where the countries were when you had to place them where they belong.

  5. I think that everyone should know how to locate places on the map. I do as well remember playing those computer games such as the Oregon trail, and others where you have to locate different countries on a map and i always thought they were fun. I think that it is really funny when people do travel really far and when you ask them where they went they will say something like i traveled to Guam. It is even better when they cant locate Guam on a map. I think that it would be very beneficial for people to be able to locate places on a map.

  6. I agree with Mike. People should be able to locate things on a map. I know this because I'm one of them. I am the worst at geography and have no clue what a country is. It bothers me because I'll be playing a board name that says name a country you want to live in or something like that and I sit there dumbfounded. I also want to travel the world, but how can I if I don't know where any places are. I think games that encourage this are a smart idea.

  7. It is funny for me because sometimes i can remember where a place is on the map and the very next day i will completely forget where the place is. I think everyone should know where all the important countries are on a map. We should not have to know where all the countries are because we have maps and internet now which can just tell us where they are. These games are a smart idea to learn where countries are but sooner or later i think you will end up forgetting where it is and that is when the internet comes in handy.

  8. i don't remember the T.V. show Carmen Sandiego, but i defiantly remember playing the computer game and it was alot of fun, where u explore different parts of the world and took flights to different places and did missions. So this game really did help me remember places around the world on the map because when you hear people talking about different places in the world you at least want to be familiar witht here where abouts.
